{"id":1054,"date":"2013-02-19T10:39:26","date_gmt":"2013-02-19T10:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrisspeed.net\/?p=1054"},"modified":"2013-02-19T10:40:40","modified_gmt":"2013-02-19T10:40:40","slug":"internet-of-cars-is-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/?p=1054","title":{"rendered":"Internet of Cars is coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Scotsman ran an article on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixthsensetransport.com\">Sixth Sense Transport<\/a> plans for working with the Edinburgh City Council and Central Taxis:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/the-scotsman\/scotland\/tourists-to-be-guided-around-scotland-by-taxi-app-1-2762163\">http:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/the-scotsman\/scotland\/tourists-to-be-guided-around-scotland-by-taxi-app-1-2762163<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;VISITORS to Scotland will be the first in the world to use technology that guides visitors to tourist attractions by linking their smartphones to the registration numbers on taxis.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The innovative project is a first step in what could become an \u201cinternet on wheels\u201d, with cars effectively becoming mobile social media sites, accessed by phone via their licence plates.<\/p>\n<p>The Travelling Treasures project will use taxi number plates to send information about museums and monuments in Edinburgh to passing tourists.<\/p>\n<p>It will initially cover eight city council-run venues, including the Scott Monument, Museum of Edinburgh, Museum of Childhood and City Art Centre.<\/p>\n<p>As a taxi passes one of the museums, information and pictures from the venue will be electronically \u201ctagged\u201d to the registration number on the cab\u2019s number plate.<\/p>\n<p>This could include artefacts on display, such Greyfriars Bobby\u2019s collar at the Museum of Edinburgh, or a Dalek at the Museum of Childhood.
