The department are based at the Gropius site. University campus meets tourist attraction. The buildings are in good shape and remain fascinating artefacts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/photo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-275\" title=\"photo1\" src=\"http:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/photo1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"photo1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/photo1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/photo1-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/photo1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lectures constructed a narrative between the Less Remote paper, Leonardo April issue, and the City in Film paper on Ghosts and memory.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Talks went well, but something popped up which was fascinating in the context of Landscape Architecture. The <\/span><strong><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Dessau\" href=\"\/wiki\/Dessau\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dessau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211;<\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"W\u00f6rlitz\" href=\"\/wiki\/W%C3%B6rlitz\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">W\u00f6rlitz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Garden Realm<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, also known as the <\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">English Grounds of W\u00f6rlitz<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, is a very large <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"English park\" href=\"\/wiki\/English_park\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">English parks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> created in the late 18th century.\u00a0Strongly influenced by the ideals of <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Age of Enlightenment\" href=\"\/wiki\/Age_of_Enlightenment\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Enlightenment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, the owners <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Leopold III, Duke of Anhalt-Dessau\" href=\"\/wiki\/Leopold_III,_Duke_of_Anhalt-Dessau\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Duke Leopold III of Anhalt-Dessau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> and\u00a0his friend architect <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff\" href=\"\/wiki\/Friedrich_Wilhelm_von_Erdmannsdorff\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> aimed to overcome the <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Formal garden\" href=\"\/wiki\/Formal_garden\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">formal garden<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> concept of the <\/span><a style=\"text-decoration: none; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; \" title=\"Baroque\" href=\"\/wiki\/Baroque\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Baroque<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> era in favour of a naturalistic landscape. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the middle of one of the lakes the guys constructed an island atop which was a model of\u00a0<a style=\"text-decoration: none; color: #0645ad; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\" title=\"Mount Vesuvius\" href=\"\/wiki\/Mount_Vesuvius\">Mount Vesuvius<\/a>. The duke would stage fireworks that seemed to issue from an erupting volcano to entertain his guests. At the foot of the mountain on the island was a building intended to suggest\u00a0<a style=\"text-decoration: none; color: #0645ad; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\" title=\"William Hamilton (diplomat)\" href=\"\/wiki\/William_Hamilton_(diplomat)\">William Hamilton<\/a>&#8216;s home at\u00a0<a style=\"text-decoration: none; color: #0645ad; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\" title=\"Pompeii\" href=\"\/wiki\/Pompeii\">Pompeii<\/a>, where he did his famous archaeological work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Postcards describe the site, which was reenacted when the site gained World Heritage status 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/volcano.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-278\" title=\"volcano\" src=\"http:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/volcano.jpg\" alt=\"volcano\" width=\"600\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/volcano.jpg 600w, https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/volcano-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chrisspeed.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/volcano-500x207.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a landscape theatre is seems extraordinary that so much work would be done to demonstrate a control over natural forces.<\/p>\n<p>Fantastic work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well sort of.
